"Giving Prayer"-by Jess Hall

PRAYER: definition

-An earnest request or wish. An address (petition) to God… (Merriam Webster)

-A spiritual communion with God…as in supplication, thanksgiving, adoration, or confession. (dictionary.com.)

It is so hard to focus. To be still not only outside, but inside.

Why do I have to pray when You, God, know my every thought? When You know what I need before I ask for it.

Prayer…it turns my focus from me to You.

It opens my heart and my mind to include You – in my desires, dreams, and decisions.

It opens my hands to give You the reins. Take the wheel. Steer the ship.

Giving You control over my life’s direction, trusting You with the destination.

Prayer…its not only asking FOR, but also giving TO.

Giving my worship of who You are.

Giving my thanksgiving of what You have done…will do…can do.

Giving my humility – confessing my weakness, praising Your Strength, admitting my faults, and receiving Your Grace.

Giving my time, my love, my trust…to You.

Desiring a relationship with You.

Dreaming a future with You.

Deciding…to pray to You.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (Philippians 4:6, NIV)

“…let your requests be made known to God.” (HCSB)

“…tell God every detail of your needs in earnest and thankful prayer…” (PHILLIPS)
