Haven- by Jess Hall

For you are God, my only safe haven. (Psalm 43:2, NLT) When life gets hard, it is so tempting to run to our hiding hole. It is so tempting to make that hole our haven- a place of refuge and safety. It is so tempting to let our haven hold us, safe in isolation, as we build barricades to prevent anyone or anything from entering in. We think our haven has top-notch security. Secure and snug in our bed, we feel safe from the outside world with its cold darkness and angry winds. Our weary, storm-battered mind, closed off just like our bedroom door, is shielded by the “Do Not Disturb” sign hanging from the doorknob. Yet, our thoughts still find us. Knocking, pushing, and breaking into our isolation. Peace vanishes as silence ends, and fear comes flooding in... Does God want our security to come from our separation or His Presence. Our snugness from our comforter or His Comfort. Our light from our lamp or His Word. God wants us to run TO Him, seeking refuge IN Him, sheltering storms WITH Him. For my soul finds shelter and safety in You, and in the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge and be confidently secure until destruction passes by. (Psalm 57:1, AMP) God wants to be our Great Comforter for all eternity.

He comforts us in all our troubles... (2 Corinthians 1:4, NLT)

...God will wipe every tear from their eyes [giving them eternal comfort].

(Revelation 7:17, AMP) God wants to guide us, instruct us, and encourage us through His written Word. Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105 , KJV) Accept His Invitation. Open our heart’s door to His Knocking. Take refuge in the strength of His Promises. True security will be found in the haven of His Presence.
