Many of us this Christmas season may be alone. We may be mourning the loss of a loved one or still searching for the right one. Maybe we are separated by distance – in miles or in our hearts. Whatever the reason may be, Jesus wants to remind us that He is with us even though no one else may be.
“…And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20b)
Twas the night before Christmas
Alone in my bed
No visions of sugar plums
Danced in my head
No grandmas nor grandpas
No children nor spouse
This year, only me
Not even a mouse
Alone in my house
I curled up in a ball
I had no one to be with
To talk to at all
When deep in my heart
There arose such a clatter
I sat up in bed
Wondering what was the matter
The tugging, the pressure
It pushed me upright
Step by step it did lead me
Til my bible twas in sight
The title, it twinkled
The cover, worn well
I flipped open the pages
And paused as tears fell
A truth lay before me
Encircled like a wreath
With lines pointing downward
And notes written beneath
For in a past struggle
He had shown me truth then
And now in today
He showed me again
Joy – it now spread
From my head to my toes
For I saw there in writing
From the grave He arose
He conqured death’s sting
As He carried my shame
Bringing love to my life
He called me by name
The sadness was fading
Melting like snow
In the shimmering sunshine
Allowing joy now to grow
Joy, not from people
But from peace deep within
Peace from His Presence
Always with me til the end
I heard His soft whisper-
“I’m never far from your sight
I love you beloved
Now rest and Good Night!”
